Quarterly allotment inspections take place by two members of the committee and selected criteria are used to establish the condition of each plot. Plot holders who do not meet the standards laid down will be informed through a three stage procedure:

  1. Phone call to request improvements
  2. Written warning letter
  3. Final eviction letter

Criteria: Improvement:

  • Excessive weeds Suppress or clear
  • Lack of cultivation Evidence of planting
  • Non upkeep of paths Boundaries cleared
  • Untidy site Tidy, clear, weed, trim
  • Other eg:
    • crops not harvested
    • weeds affect neighbours
    • health and safety hazards

The Committee will re-inspect the site and consider appropriate action. Where no significant improvements are made within 28 days of the date of the warning letter the matter will be taken to a quorate committee meeting and if agreed, an eviction letter will be sent out by registered post. Members are encouraged to inform the secretary if they are having difficulty meeting the standard in any one season and assistance can be considered.
